In October 2009, Capitol Acquisition Corp. created Two Harbors Investment Corp., a Maryland real estate investment trust. Two Harbors was established in partnership with Pine River Capital Management L.P. to capitalize on severe dislocation in the residential mortgage backed securities market post-crash.
Two Harbors has grown from a $119 million market capitalization at the time of the merger to one of the preeminent franchises in the mortgage REIT industry with a $4.4 billion market capitalization in May 2015, including the spin-off of Silver Bay Realty Trust, which was the first publicly-traded single-family housing REIT.
Two Harbors’ common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “TWO”. Silver Bay’s common stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “SBY”.
